Laia Abril on the dialogue with Teresa Margolles and Emily Jacir
Runtime: 00:54
Laia Abril: When curator Anna Tellgren invited me to present this series in dialogue with two artists who have deeply inspired me, I proposed Mexican artist Teresa Margolles and Palestinian artist Emily Jacir, both profoundly committed political voices.
Encountering Teresa’s work for the first time, I was struck by how she translates images into the physicality of objects and structures, creating memorial pieces and spaces that transcend individual pain while resonating with viewers on invisible and visceral level.
Emily’s practice—particularly through her words and films —remind me the power of addressing transgenerational trauma, compelling audiences to confront the far-reaching ramifications violence across history, time, and society. From the personal to the politicial.
