Gitte Ørskou: Hello, my name is Gitte Ørskou. I’m the director of Moderna Museet, as well as the curator for this show. The show that I’ve created together with Maurizio Cattelan, the Italian artist that we invited to do this with us.
The third hand is an exhibition that circles around and questions the notion of power, both religious power, the power of politics, but also the power that we have as an art institution.
We asked Maurizio Cattelan to deep dive into the collection. And the result you see here. You will see works that you haven’t seen for a long time. Works that we haven’t seen at the museum for a long time. And with that, Cattelan created completely new encounters.
We also want this exhibition to be a bodily experience. No firm answers or interpretations are there for you. We want you to react on what you see and what you meet.
We took some of the most iconic work by Mauricio Catalan, like La Nona Ora and HIM. Works that are known to a broader public and put them into different contexts to also create those new meetings with the collection of Moderna Museet.
This is the fourth exhibition we are doing where we are deep diving into our collection, showing the broadness of the collection, but also, it is an homage to the power of art.
We hope you will enjoy the show.
